Phoenix-B crew performs TCM-2 burn
Posted Thursday, November 29, 2007
Last sunday, November 25th, the Phoenix-B mission crew (Jeff Parker and Dave Barlow) conducted the TCM-2 burn sending the spacecraft on an even more precise trajectory towards Mars. A burn of the Centaur-SE main engine that lasted only a few seconds changed the spacecraft's velocity by about 20m/s. The current trajectory will send the spacecraft flying at about 50.000km altitude over Mars' North Pole on June 5th, 2008. The burn also was aimed to time the arrival slightly better, so that the landing site should be in a favourable position on arrival. Stay tuned as more and exiting news will roll in about our Phoenix landers in 2008!
