Welcome to the Aeronautic Flight Operations

Our goal at the Aeronautics Flight Operations is to simulate the many flight testing and fleet distribution missions that have and will be conducted by the real NASA in a Microsoft Flight Simulator/Orbiter environment.

The Aeronautics Flight Operations is based at the Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, Virginia.

Aircraft Testing Pilot Training

Flight Testing at SimNASA provides the virtual pilot with the chance to refine their pilot skills by flying on the edge of the envelope while researching new and proven aircraft designs and maneuvers.   The Test Pilot Program include several disciplines that test the envelope and skills of even the most highly trained and qualified pilots.   Pilots must apply specify for the Aircraft Testing Pilot Training Program.  Those who are accepted will have a highly demanding training program that will not only hone their skills as a pilot but their understanding of aerodynamics.

High Performance Aircraft

High Maneuverability and High Speed Fixed Wing Aircraft.

Conventional Aircraft

Subsonic, Fixed Wing Aircraft.

VSTOL

Helicopters, Tilt Rotors and other aircraft capable of hover.

Special Use Aircraft

Broadly represented by balloons, ultra light solar aircraft and also parafoils.

Flight Services and Scientific Research Flights

As part of its service to SimNASA, the Atompheric Flight Division operates the Flight Services and Scientific Research Flights.  These flights are open to all pilots who have completed the initial portions of their training and are not currently enrolled in an active training program.  These include regular service flights, surveillance, range, shuttle services, and scientific research flights.

Using the full spectrum of SimNASA aircraft, pilots will gain added proficiency in a wide variety of roles and conditions while increasing their flight hours.

This program is geared toward pilots who currently do not have the time to devote to a fully training program but wish to keep proficiency with aircraft while contributing to the overall mission of SimNASA.

Weather Services Group

The Weather Services Group is SimNASA weather guru's.  The object of WSG is provided world hurricane and typhoon surveillance, and similar weather reconnaissance functions as conducted by the US weather service (NOAA) and similar agencies around the world.

In addition to providing surveillance for hurricane and typhoon, the WSG also provide weather recon for all SimNASA launches and recovery operations for spacecraft operations.
